Arbor Day

Thank you to all who participated in the Arbor Day celebration at DeBenedetti Park on Saturday.

We joined with people from around the globe in celebrating the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day. This year’s theme was “Right Tree, Place, Time, Right Now.”

Thank you to our event sponsors: Tree Lodi, West Coast Arborists, Lodi Lions Club, Lodi Unified School District, and CAL FIRE.

We added 19 trees to our urban forest, along with 3 new species. Thank you again to all who came and got a little dirty to share in the effort of growing the City of Lodi’s urban forest.

New Animal Shelter Community Meeting

The City of Lodi endeavors to construct a modern Animal Shelter facility to support community needs we are unable to serve with the current shelter. The City has partnered with veterinarians from the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program and architects from LDA Partners to design a facility that will reduce stress on employees and animals, improve animal care, and promote adoptions.

During the initial design and review stages, the City has the choice between a number of potential sites for the new shelter. The public is invited to participate in giving feedback on site selection during this community meeting.

Love Lodi

This year's Love Lodi event is happening Saturday, April 30th, 2022, and will be kicking off at Hutchins Street Square!

The last event had over 1300 volunteers from across Lodi who joined together to serve our city by participating in the annual Love Lodi service day. Event Volunteers completed over 65 community clean-up and improvement projects. Over 50 organizations including schools, area parks, local non-profits, and more benefited from the projects that were completed.

National Volunteers Week

Last night at the regular City Council meeting we had the opportunity to recognize many of our City volunteers. We are very fortunate to have many volunteers throughout the City assisting in providing the very best service to our community. The Mayor proclaimed the week of April 17-23 as National Volunteers Week and extended appreciation to all the volunteers in our community.

LOEL Center

Last week some of our City Management staff had the opportunity to serve lunch at the LOEL Center and spend time with the community members. The LOEL Senior Center is a non-profit dedicated to offering free and low-cost programs and services that help seniors remain independent, healthy, active, and fulfilled in their daily lives.

Did you know? On this day back in 1955...

On April 7, 1955, the Lodi City Council voted 4-1 to deed Lodi Lake to the State in return for a credit of $150,000. The credit would be used to obtain property adjacent to the park for its enlargement as a state park, extending the park to both sides of the river to a point just beyond Highway 99 bridge. This plan ultimately failed because the State opted not to appropriate the $150,000.
