Lodi’s playgrounds will no longer be treated with glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup, effective immediately.
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department announced today it will stop spraying Roundup within 25 feet of a playground due to persistent concerns about the product’s safety.
Like most other municipal park agencies, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services uses Roundup to control weeds and grass. The Department is taking this step due to growing concerns over the potential long-term effects of Roundup exposure.
Lodi’s Parks and Recreation Commission last week received a staff presentation on the use of Roundup in Lodi parks. Commissioners expressed interest in learning more about possible weed-control alternatives to Roundup.
