[ARCHIVED] Coastal Cleanup Day returns to Lodi Lake and the Mokelumne River Sept. 18

2019- Lodi lake CCD

Lodi, Calif. –September 7, 2021 – The California Coastal Commission announced that the Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, the state’s largest volunteer event, will return to in-person gatherings at sites throughout the state on Saturday, Sept. 18.

On that day, Californians are encouraged to come together to celebrate their shared appreciation for the fabulous coast and waterways. The event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by the Ocean Conservancy, which is the largest volunteer event on the planet!

In partnership with San Joaquin County Public Works, the City of Lodi is hosting its 18th Annual Coastal Cleanup Event at Lodi Lake. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event is limited to the first 150 individuals.

The Coastal Cleanup Day Event at Lodi Lake will take place on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Because the event is limited to 150 participates, those interested must pre-register with San Joaquin County www.sjwater.org. San Joaquin County and the City of Lodi also requires a signed Waiver of Liability Release Form for all participants. Please contact Kathy Grant, Watershed Program Coordinator at kgrant@lodi.gov for the form. The City encourages participants to track their trash collection using the free downloadable Litterati app (www.literati.org) as well as the data cards provided at the event.

San Joaquin County is hosting two additional Cleanup Day Events at American Legion Park and Buckley Cove in Stockton. To participate in either of those events, participants must pre-register at www.sjwater.org.  The first 350 people to pre-register for any of the San Joaquin County events and who also turn in a completed trash collection data card will receive a 2021 Coastal Cleanup t-shirt.

In addition to Coastal Cleanup Day, volunteers are encouraged to recognize Coastal Cleanup Month by cleaning up wherever they are, whenever they can. Trash on the streets and in local parks can easily become pollution once the rains arrive and wash that trash into stormwater systems. Please contact San Joaquin County for more information regarding At-Home Cleanups or neighborhood events. http://www.sjwater.org/Stormwater-Management/California-Coastal-Cleanup.

For those pre-registered for the Lodi Lake Mokelumne River event, please come prepared:

Waiver of Liability Release Forms are for everyone. All volunteers must provide a signed Waiver of Liability Release Form. A parent or legal guardian must sign forms for volunteers under the age of 18 and submit the form to their participating group’s teacher/leader. No work may be performed without a completed Liability Release Form. Forms are available by contacting Kathy Grant, Watershed Program Coordinator at kgrant@lodi.gov or volunteers may pick up a form on the day of the event at the Discovery Center at the front of Lodi Lake, but if the volunteer is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign the form.

Dress for WORK. Volunteers are encouraged to wear work clothes, closed-toed shoes, gloves, sunscreen, and hats. Masks are also recommended.

Bring WATER, BUCKETS, GLOVES, and TRASH GRABBERS. Bring a reusable water bottle and your own bucket. There will be a limited supply of gloves, bags, and grabbers provided by event sponsors. Please help reduce the waste at the cleanups by coming prepared.
