The famously named "Santa Truck" has been a beloved tradition in the Lodi community for over 50 years. The 1967 GMC Hi-Ranger, 5 speed manual transmission, articulating boom fire truck was placed into service in 1968 as the City of Lodi's only fire truck. The truck served as a front line piece of apparatus until the mid 1990's. Once retired from active duty, the truck served solely as Santa's sleigh, whisking Santa, Mrs. Claus, and their elves through the crisp night air of Lodi's neighborhoods spreading Christmas cheer by playing Christmas music, collecting canned food for the needy, and handing out candy canes to Lodians.
Lodi fire personnel volunteer their time year-round during off-duty hours to maintain the Santa Truck, plan and coordinate routes, and make sure each season goes off without a hitch. Neighborhood routes rotate annually to ensure all citizens have an opportunity to see jolly ol' Saint Nick.
The Santa Truck is funded by way of grants and private donations.
