The City will be using the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List (SEL) and all applicants must be on the FCTC's list and meet the minimum qualifications for Fire Fighter and possess the required certifications (EMT and valid CPAT card issued between June 22, 2021, and June 22, 2022). Applicants who are not on the FCTC list will not move forward in the interview selection process. Additional information on the FCTC SEL, testing dates, and testing locations can be located on their website.
INTEREST CARD If you’re interested in joining our team, submit an interest card here (click the SUBSCRIBE button in the upper-righthand corner). Within it, you can review the Firefighter I/II job classification, submit an interest card, and be notified when the application period opens. Once the application period is open, applicants must complete an employment application.
QUALIFICATIONS The following list includes the qualifications and requirements that are necessary to apply as a Firefighter I/II. At the time of application, candidates must:
Be at least 18 years old
Graduated from high school or possess a GED certificate, College level Fire Science coursework is desirable
Possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Driver’s License

EMT Certification Completion of an approved California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training course with the appropriate certification is required at the time of hire.
CPR Certification Most EMT programs have a prerequisite requiring a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of enrollment. You can learn more about CPR certifications by visiting the American Red Cross website or searching online for American Heart Association – BLS Provider courses.
Pre-Academy Physical Ability Test Successful completion of a physical ability test is required prior to the date of hire. We will provide further information about the organization we will partner with to proctor this test.
