Brian M. Stocker, who died in 2010 at the age of 48, eight years after a life-altering automobile accident, passionately believed in youth athletics as a catalyst for instilling leadership skills, personal responsibility, teamwork, fair play and healthy living. Compelled to establish a legacy to fulfill his goals, Brian left the bulk of his significant estate for the express purpose of establishing a permanent charitable fund to support local organizations and initiatives aligned with his interests.
Brian's passion for aquatic sports began at a young age as a member of the now defunct Morada Mini-Subs, part of the Lodi Summer Swim Program. He later served as a summer lifeguard and swam competitively for Tokay High School. Later, Brian excelled in ocean kayaking and sailing, coached youth swimming, competed in triathlons and swam with the local Masters program.
Lodi's aquatics programs will be eligible to receive as much as $275,000 in grant funding to boost participation over the next 10 years, especially among economically disadvantage youth, through a partnership with the Brian M. Stoker Fund at the Community Foundation of San Joaquin.
