PEDESTRIAN HIT BY TRAIN AND TRAIN DERAILED
A northbound Union Pacific train struck a white female that was lying next to the tracks, about 150 yards north of Lockeford St. The female whose name is not being released at this time, was apparently lying on the tracks as the train approached. The female sustained massive head trauma, and was ultimately transported to Lodi Memorial Hospital. As a result of the accident, the train implemented an emergency stop procedure, which caused five container cars to become derailed in the area of the train depot. One car narrowly missed the “Giant Tire” business building, coming to rest in the bus driveway. None of the derailed cars were of a chemical or hazmat nature. UP maintenance, personnel were on scene throughout the night. At the time of this release the victim’s condition was listed as “Stable”.
