Artists of all abilities sought for monthly event in Lodi

Lodi, Calif (June 16, 2003) -- The Lodi Arts Commission is pleased to announce that beginning August 1st, the monthly First Friday art shows (currently held at Hutchins Street Square’s Thomas Theatre Gallery) will expand to include venues across the City of Lodi.

New locations for this popular event will include the Lodi Public Library, the Lodi Community Art Center, and multiple locations in the downtown district.

Art patrons will now be able to “hop” from place to place on the first Friday evening of every month and experience a multitude of art forms – from the visual arts to music, to dance and theatre.

Artists of all types and abilities are being sought and are encouraged to participate. Sponsorships and new venues are also welcome. For more information, please call the Lodi Arts Commission at 209-333-5511.

ABOUT FIRST FRIDAYS IN LODI: In February of this year, The Lodi Arts Project Fund and the Lodi Arts Commission began to host monthly meet-the-artist receptions in the Thomas Theatre Gallery at Hutchins Street Square. These events have become extremely popular and are very well attended by a wide cross-section of the local population.

In addition to showcasing the talents of local visual artists, these events also include an entertainment feature by a local musician, dance group or other gifted artist. Admission to these family-friendly events is free and also includes food and drink, usually sponsored by a local winery or other business.

ABOUT The Lodi Arts Project Fund: The LAPF was created in 1997 in order to provide financial support to, and financial management of, the many programs of the Lodi Arts Commission, thereby ensuring the presence of the arts in daily life, enriching our community with diverse ideas and talents and enhancing the personal and economic well-being of the people of our community. Tax-deductible donations to the Project Fund are always welcome.

The Lodi Arts Commission was established by the Lodi City Council in 1982 and charged with the mission to promote and encourage programs to further the development and public awareness of and interest in the fine and performing arts and to act in an advisory capacity to the Lodi City Council in connection with the artistic and cultural development of the City.
