Fatality Traffic Collision   


     The Lodi Police Department is currently investigating a fatal traffic collision which occurred today, Feb. 4, 2004 at approximately 10:14 AM at Cherokee and Pioneer.  A GMC Sonoma driven by Agnes Belle Klein attempted to turn left from the stop sign at Cherokee/Pioneer.  There was a Goodwill freight truck driven by Jerald Lee Roberts, heading southbound on Cherokee from the off ramp of Highway 99.


   The truck approached the intersection as the Sonoma began to turn left from the stop sign.  The truck collided with the Sonoma. The impact of both vehicles sent the truck southeast through a light pole and landing in a church parking lot.  The Sonoma was struck near the front passenger door.  The impact knocked the vehicle into the center median.  Both vehicles had major damage to the front passenger side and front bumper respectively.


   Howard Blair Klein was the front passenger in the Sonoma and son of the driver.  Howard sustained major head injuries,  He was transported to San Joaquin General by AMR and pronounced dead from his injuries at 11:20 AM. Agnes was transported by AMR to a local hospital. The driver of the freight truck and front passenger were uninjured.


  The Lodi Major Accident Investigation Team is currently investigating the cause of this collision and requests that any witnesses that have not been interviewed please contact Lodi Police Department.  The cause of the collision will be released once the investigation is completed.
