The Lodi Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public in identifying and capturing a suspect believed to be responsible for a series of armed holdups of local businesses.  The suspect is believed to have struck five times in Lodi since November 13, targeting retail stores at various times of the day and night.  Victim businesses included three video stores, a shoe store and a sandwich shop.  He brandished a knife in the first robbery, and has used a dark colored semi-automatic pistol to intimidate his victims in the remaining four.   The suspect may also be responsible for a number of robberies in other Northern California cities, a possibility that is being actively investigated by LPD Detectives.  (Multiplex camera video of one robbery is available at LPD, but will likely require editing for television.  Stills from the video are available.)

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20’s, 5’6” to 5’7”, 160 to 150 pounds, with a thin moustache and a lightly pock-marked cheeks.  He has dressed in all black, including a black stocking cap/beanie and black gloves, and has alternated this with a tan or beige two-piece sweat suit with white stripes down the sleeves and legs.  He speaks English with little or no accent.

Lodi Police are especially concerned about the public safety, given the suspect’s clear threat of violence by displaying a firearm.  Merchants and the public are reminded that it is always best to cooperate with a robber, and not challenge or stare at the suspect. Do not refuse him the money; it is not worth your life.  Additional robbery prevention and safety tips can be found at www.lodi.gov/police, in the Crime Prevention section.

Persons with information on this suspect are encouraged to call the Lodi Police Department at 209-333-6727.  Persons may also call anonymously to Lodi Area Crime stoppers at 209-333-6771, and may be eligible for a cash reward.
