City opening Hutchins Street Square theater stage for students
The City of Lodi is opening its stage at Hutchins Street Square to high school and college students to practice the performing arts.
Starting Monday, May 14, the stage in the Charlene Powers Lange Theatre will be available in one-hour blocks from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, unless the stage is previously reserved. Times are also subject to Hutchins Street Square staff availability.
The fee for the “On the Stage” program is $10 per hour, with a maximum of 10 students on stage. Each student may bring a guest to the theatre. As the “On the Stage” program is intended strictly as a way for student performers to gain experience by practicing in a theater setting, it is not available for professionals, lessons or other instructions, games or performances.
Interested students should call the Hutchins Street Square Box Office at 333-5550 to inquire about availability. In addition to the $10-per-hour charge, stage users must leave a student ID with the box office during their rental time, and complete a waiver form available for download here. Students under age 18 must also have the waiver signed by their parents. Stage hours must be reserved in advance by calling the box office.
Performers will have access to electrical power, but not to special lighting or the theatre sound system. No technical assistance will be provided, and only hand-carried items are allowed (no hand trucks or dollies) in the theatre.
Depending on interest in the program, additional hours for the “On the Stage” may be available during the summer.
