Dec. 29 update: Due to wet conditions, the basin parks will remain closed through Jan. 2, 2011. Park conditions will be reassessed on Jan. 3, 2011.
The National Weather Service is predicting periods of heavy rain beginning as soon as Thursday and lasting into next week. As a result, Lodi’s basin parks, including the dog parks at Vinewood and Beckman, will be closed to the public beginning Thursday, Dec. 16.
Many of Lodi’s parks were designed to work in conjunction with the City’s storm drains, providing overflow relief during periods of heavy rainfall. Because opened storm drain gates in the park may pose a hazard to the public, Salas, Peterson, Glaves, Vinewood, Beckman and Kofu parks will be closed until the threat of heavy rains is over. Members of the public may not enter the parks if gates are locked.
According to the National Weather Service, leaf fall and heavy rains may cause localized street flooding. Residents scheduled for leaf pickup are asked not to place leaves in the street until the day before, and to pile them away from the gutter to prevent leaves from being carried into storm drains. |
