In 1996, the Lodi Police Department formed the Special Investigations Unit for the purpose of proactive law enforcement. The objective of the Special Investigations Unit or S.I.U. is to target career criminals, gang members, sex offenders and narcotic violators.
S.I.U. has two detectives whose primary assignment is gang enforcement. These detectives routinely contact suspected gang members and gang associates for the purpose of documentation and intelligence.
S.I.U. has one detective whose primary assignment is the tracking and registration of convicted sex offenders.
Another primary duty of S.I.U. is narcotic enforcement. This includes serving search warrants and conducting probation/parole searches on suspected drug dealers. The S.I.U. has detectives certified to work in clandestine methamphetamine lab environments. Many of the drug labs encountered by the S.I.U. include acids, poisonous or flammable gases, and other caustic materials.
The S.I.U. also investigates computer crimes.
If you suspect that drug dealing or gang activity is occurring in your neighborhood, you may anonymously report this information to the Lodi Police Department Special Investigations Unit at 333-6734.
