Interim Chief Tod PattersonChief of Police

Chief Tod Patterson began his law enforcement career with the Solano County Sheriff's Department in 1987 before transferring to the Rio Vista Police Department in 1989. He was hired by the Lodi Police Department in 1990 as a patrol officer.

Throughout his tenure at the Lodi Police Department, he has worked in Patrol and Investigations, with assignments in Narcotics, Bicycle Patrol and as a Field Training Officer.

In 2002, he promoted to Sergeant and oversaw the Field Training Program and the Investigations Unit. In 2009, he promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned as a patrol Watch Commander. Tod promoted to Captain in 2012 and has commanded both the Operations and Support Services Bureaus.

Since 2006, Chief Patterson has worked as a Recruit Training Officer at Delta College and is an active advocate for training and recruitment for the Lodi Police Department. In this capacity, he has been involved in training every officer hired from the Delta College Administration of Justice POST Academy since 2006.

Chief Patterson has a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Services Management from Union Institute and University. Tod is also a graduate of the Los Angeles Police Department West Point Leadership Program, the Peace Officer Standards and Training Executive Leadership Program and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy.  He has received numerous commendations throughout his career with the Lodi Police Department including the Bronze Star in 2005.

Chief Patterson’s passion lies with the men and women of the Lodi Police Department.  He is dedicated to providing them with the training, equipment and leadership they need to succeed.  He also understands how important it is for our community to feel safe and secure and believes working in partnership with our community is an excellent way to accomplish this goal.
