Text Box: HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS   LODI POLICE DEPARTMENT CRIME PREVENTION UNIT 333-6863 Halloween is a fun and exciting time for all.  Unfortunately, it can also end in tragedy.  The following safety tips are offered which we hope will make Halloween fun and safe for all.   ADULTS   ¨         Turn your porch and exterior lights on. ¨         Be visible outside to discourage acts of vandalism or crimes against children. ¨         Set a time limit for your children and boundaries as well.  Children under the age of 8 should be accompanied by an adult. ¨         Instruct your children not to eat anything until are home and the candy checked.  Cut and wash fruit before eating.  Throw anything away that is not wrapped. ¨         Check the wrappers of commercial candy for tampering. ¨         Report any suspicious or unusual activity immediately to the dispatch at 333-6727.   MOTORISTS   ¨         Exercise extreme caution when driving a vehicle.  Be on the alert for young children, especially if they are wearing masks.   CHILDREN   ¨         Do not accept rides from strangers. ¨         Carry a flashlight and cross the street at the corners, never between parked cars, and look both ways before crossing.
