LOL @ your library during Teen Read Week

Lodi teens will be reading for the fun of it as Lodi Public Library celebrates the tenth annual Teen Read Week, October 14 – 20, 2007. They join thousands of other libraries, schools and bookstores across the country who are encouraging teens to celebrate this year’s theme, "LOL @ your library." Teen Read Week is the national adolescent literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest growing division of the American Library Association. This year’s theme encourages teens to read humorous books and graphic novels just 'for the fun of it'.

Lodi Public Library hopes to increase teen literacy locally by offering a series of programs for teens during Teen Read Week. To keep teens “laughing out loud” we will have a display of funny fiction and fun non-fiction books for the whole month of October. Also on September 18, Library will announce a “Joke and Funny short Story Contest”. The teen contest participants will get a chance to read their writings at a “Comedy Night” on Thursday October 18.

A festival of old time short comedies, “Face Off: Funny Face competition”, (where participants make funny faces to be photographed and later their pictures will be posted on the Library’s TeenScape), and lots of prizes and good food are going to make this a very fun evening at the library. The program is for school age to 18 years, and is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of Lodi Public library. For more information contact; Behjat Kerdegari , Teen/Reference Librarian by calling 209-333-5503.

Pokemon Trading Card Tournament

Are you ready to duel? On Saturday September 15, Lodi Public Library hosts a Pokemon Trading Card Tournament in the Bud Sullivan Community Room.

This summer Lodi Public Library is taking part in a nationwide reading initiative to promote reading for teens during the summer months.

The main theme; Creature Feature invites readers to learn more about the world of real animals, or immerse themselves in the fantasy of imaginary ones.

The program kicks off May 22 and continues through July 22.  All LPL cardholders between 12 and 18 years of age are eligible to register. Delightful keepsakes are available to those who sign in and cool prizes will be given to those who finish reading at least two books of 100 pages or more.
