The June 8th movie is SPIDER-MAN, adapted from those wonderful Marvel comics which continue to thrill our reading audiences. When bitten by a genetically modified spider, a nerdy, shy and awkward high school student gains spider-like and super powers to fight evil. Starring Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Cliff Robertson, and Rosemary Harris, this movie was nominated for Oscars, and won other film awards.
This movie makes a great tie-in with our Library’s Summer Reading Programs: “Catch the Reading Bug” and “Metamorphosis”. Released in 2002, this movie is rated PG-13.

To coincide with our Adult Summer Reading Club, we’ve selected a Western for the July 13th movie: SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON. It was adapted from stories written by James Warner Bellah. Released in 1949, this classic John Ford directed movie, portrays Calvary Captain Nathan Brittles, on the eve of retirement, taking his last patrol to stop an impending attack. Set in Monument Valley, this film won an Oscar for cinematography.
Not rated, the stars include John Wayne, Joanna Dru, John Agar, and Ben Johnson.

Our August 10th movie will be HOLES, adapted from Louis Sacher’s Newberry winning novel of the same title. A new classic family movie, it tells the story of a boy, wrongly convicted of a crime, who is sent to a brutal detention camp where he joins other boys digging holes for some mysterious reason.
This film stars Shia LaBeouf as Stanley Yelnats, the main character, joined by such greats as Sigourney Weaver and Jon Voight. It is rated PG.
