Library Policies

Please feel free to review any of our policies on the following topics:

Borrowing

You may have up to 50 items checked out on your card. The following items have limits as listed:

  • Magazines - 3 of the same title; 50 total
  • Adult audio-cassettes - 10
  • Pamphlets - 6
  • Juvenile audio-cassette books - 10
  • Juvenile book and cassette kits - 10
  • Juvenile holiday books - 3
  • Compact disks - 10
  • Videos and DVDs - 10
  • CD ROMs - 10

Most items are checked out for three weeks.

Magazines may be renewed once. Books and media may be renewed three times. Items may be renewed online, by phone, or at the library. Overdue items cannot be renewed if there are 25 or more items overdue and/or the accrued fines are $15.00 or more.

Overdue Fines and Charges

A fine of twenty-five cents a day is charged for each day an adult item is kept overdue, with a maximum fine of $10.00 per item. Juvenile items are ten cents a day; the maximum fine is $4.00 per item. Non-payment of fines will result in suspension of borrowing privileges. A fee of $25.00 will be charged for returned checks.

Other Services

  • Books not in our collection may be requested through Inter-Library Loan.
  • The library has copy machines and microform readers and printers.
  • Books may be reserved online or at the library or by phone. You will be notified when the book is available.
  • Our California Room contains books and other materials relating to California and local history.
  • Libros en espaņol--the library has a small but growing collection of books in Spanish.
  • Phone books for much of California and some out-of-state areas are available.
  • A wide variety of large print books are available.
  • Genealogical research materials may be requested from Sutro Library.
  • Computers and word processors are available for public use.
  • Reference questions may be submitted to our reference librarians by e-mailing to: referencelib@lodilibrary.org.
Internet Access Policy and Information

Access Policy

It is the Library's policy that parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for deciding what library resources are appropriate for their children. There will be some resources which parents may feel are inappropriate for their children. Restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or guardian; the Library does not have the right or responsibility to act in place of the parent or legal guardian (loco parentis). The Lodi Public Library specifically disclaims any warranty as to the content's accuracy, authoritativeness, timeliness, usefulness, or fitness for a particular purpose. The Library shall have no liability for any direct, indirect, or consequential damages related to the use of the information contained therein.

Procedures for Internet Use
  1. Call the library for an appointment; one-on-one internet assistance may be available by appointment.
  2. You will be asked to read and agree to a responsible use agreement.
  3. On the day of your appointment, check in at the Checkout Counter.
  4. Use the station.
  5. When your session is over, checkout at the Checkout Counter.
  6. A printer is available to print your Internet findings. The cost is $0.10 per page of text, and $0.25 per page of graphics and/or pictures.
Time Limits

You may reserve one hour of Internet time per day. If no one is signed up to use the Internet station, availability is on a first come basis. Pre-registered users relinquish their time slot after they are 10 minutes late, unless previous arrangement is made.

Responsible Use Agreement

With the freedom and privilege to access computers and networks come the responsibility to use this service in a responsible and ethical manner. The following is a partial list of unacceptable uses:

  • Using resources for other than educational, informational, and recreational purposes
  • Using resources for unauthorized, illegal or unethical purposes
  • Attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to the library or others
  • Seeking unauthorized access to a computer system or damaging or altering software components of a network or database
  • Destruction of or damage to equipment
  • Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted or licensed software or data
  • Violation of library usage policies and regulations
  • Harassment of other users
  • Libeling or slandering
  • Violation of another user's privacy

    Internet Use and Policy Statement

                                                                                                              
    PURPOSE

    As part of our collection, Lodi Public Library provides access to a broad range of information resources, including those available through the Internet.  The Internet offers access to many valuable local, national, and international sources of information. We make this service available to fulfill our mission to offer a broadly defined program of informational, educational, recreational and cultural enrichment opportunities for Lodi citizens of all ages and backgrounds.

    Some Internet sites contain information which one may find inaccurate, controversial or offensive. The Library has no control over the information on the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content.  As is the case with other resources in the Library collection, any restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

    ACCESS POLICY

    With the freedom and privilege to access computers and computer networks comes the responsibility to use them in a responsible and ethical manner.  Unacceptable uses include but are not limited to the following:

    Using resources for other than educational, informational and recreational purposes

    Using resources for unauthorized, illegal or unethical purposes

    Attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords or data belonging to the Library or other entities

    Seeking  unauthorized access to a computer system or damaging or altering software components of a network or database

    Destruction of or damage to equipment

    Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted or licensed software or data

    Violation of library usage policies and regulations

    Harassment of other users

    Libeling or slandering

    Violation of another user’s privacy

    Failure to comply with these restrictions may result in revoking your privilege to use the infostation and access the Internet.

    Implementation and administration of this policy regarding proficiency requirements, time limitations and compliance with acceptable use is the responsibility of library administration and subject to change at the discretion of the director.
