Police Chief Adams reported that staff began looking at options for a mobile command post in 1999. After a great deal of research, Universal Specialty Vehicles from Riverside was selected. Construction began in April 2002 and the 38 foot mobile command post fifth wheel trailer was delivered last week. State technology grant funds in the amount of $175,000 were used to purchase the trailer and equipment. It has a three room design with areas for command, communications, and hostage negotiations. The trailer has hydraulic slide outs, a 12.5 diesel generator, custom interior, restroom, telephone system, telular wireless, data ports for computers, radio systems, thermal imaging equipment, network television, VCR systems in each room, custom design for monitoring of hostage negotiation situations, and exterior graphics depicting the partnership between the Police and Fire Departments.
Fire Chief Pretz stated that the Fire Department purchased the tow vehicle and equipment for $48,500. It is a 1998 freight liner with 88,000 miles, 26,000 gross vehicle weight, six speed manual transmission, 150 inch wheel base, with a 200 horsepower diesel engine.
