Pet Licensing/Fees

Every person who owns a dog or cat over the age of four months is required by law to license their animal (LMC 6.12.010). Dog and cat owners who fail to comply with licensing requirements are subject to costly penalties. A license tag must be fastened to your pet's collar or harness and worn at all times.

To license your dog you must have proof of current rabies vaccinations. You can get a rabies vaccine from your local veterinarian or a vaccine clinic. City of Lodi pet licenses may be purchased at the Lodi Animal Shelter, 1345 W. Kettleman Lane.

Unaltered Cats and Dogs Annual Fee $50.00

Question and answers about pet licensing:

Q. How do I obtain a pet license?
A. You must first fill out the license form completely, provide a copy of your dog's rabies certificate (cats exempt) and pay the amount specified on the form.

Q. Where do I obtain a pet license form?
A. Forms are available on this page or from the Animal Shelter at 1345 W. Kettleman Lane. Although office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., department staff may be away responding to service calls or busy with animals inside the shelter. They are no longer available from the Finance Department.

Q. Do I pay the fee at the Shelter or at the Finance Department?
A. Paying by mail, to the address shown on the license application form, will be the most convenient method for more pet owners. Payments, however, may be made at the Animal Shelter.

Q. Didn't the City used to send pet owners a reminder?
A. Yes, but that service is no longer available. Animal Shelter staff is hopeful it may be renewed in the future.

Q. Can I obtain a pet license at any time of the year?
A. Licenses may be obtained at any time, but they will not be valid after the rabies certificate's expiration date. Licenses must be renewed before their expiration dates.

Q. What happens if I don't license my pet?
A. Licensing pets encourages a healthy pet population and allows lost pets to quickly be reunited with their owners. Additionally, licensing is required by the Lodi Municipal Ordinance. Pet owners who fail to license their dogs or cats could face legal sanctions.

Impound and Field Call fee:

An impound or field call fee is charged when an Animal Services Officer responds to pick up a loose dog or a cat in a trap. This fee is charged when the animal is redeemed by the owner at the Lodi Animal Shelter.

Boarding fee

A boarding fee is charged to cover the cost of cleaning, feeding and medical services for animals that must be housed in the Lodi Animal Shelter. This fee is charged to the owner of the animal when the animal is redeemed at the Shelter.
